Buccaneers Adjust Roster McMillan on IR Rypien Joins Practice Squad

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced key changes to their lineup, notably placing wide receiver Jalen McMillan on injured reserve and signing quarterback Brett Rypien to the practice squad. These adjustments come as the Buccaneers strategize to maintain their competitiveness amid a series of injuries.

Jalen McMillan, who suffered a PCL sprain in his left knee during a recent game against the Minnesota Vikings, will be unable to play for at least four games. The injury occurred when McMillan collided with Vikings safety Josh Metellus while running a corner route. It is a reaggravation of a previous injury sustained during training camp, which had already caused him to miss the first game of the season.

In response to the loss of their starting quarterback Baker Mayfield to a dislocated right thumb, the Buccaneers have brought in Brett Rypien as a veteran backup. Rypien joins the team’s practice squad and provides additional depth alongside quarterback Easton Stick. This move ensures the Buccaneers have experienced options behind undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels, who will start in Mayfield’s absence.

This reshuffling of the roster reflects the Buccaneers’ efforts to address immediate team needs while planning for ongoing challenges in their schedule. The addition of safety Ifeatu Melifonwu to the 53-man roster from the practice squad also signifies proactive steps to bolster the team’s defense.
